Sylvie Gil has been hosting her workshop at Chateau de Varennes for a number of years, and it’s no surprise why. We were greeted with champagne and a gorgeous table setting on the front steps of the chateau, followed by a four course dinner specially prepared by a Michelin Star chef, Nathan Muir. Even the vegetarian dishes were perfection.
The grounds are just as stunning as the inside, and luckily we got to work in both! Days two and three were spent outside photographing the most stunning ceremony and reception scenes designed by Greenwood Events. The goal was to tell a story, so they incorporated unique elements like custom fabrics and carved wood stationery from Aerialist Press to tie together all of the different scenes.
The Monique Lhuillier gowns were also to die for. The white gown was perfect for the intimate countryside ceremony, and the red evening gown made such a statement against the white tux and neutral colors of the chateau itself. Honestly, who doesn’t love an outfit change?
It’s hard to explain in words what these images mean to me. I have wanted to incorporate film into my work since day one – it’s what I learned on. It’s how I wanted to bring my art full circle to the dream I had as a pre-teen. Having the opportunity to do this and love the result is something I will never get over!
